Goals

An objective towards which we work, an ideal for which we strive, believing that the outcome will more than compensate for the effort involved. Jesus, “For the joy set before Him [of having sinful people who have accepted His offer of salvation being forever in His presence] endured the cross” (Heb 12:1,2). He focused on the long-term result not the immediate excruciating experience. Aren’t you glad He accomplished the goal!

(Ex 20:3).Our aim should be to bring glory (honour) to God. When we make this the number one priority in our lives what is needed for our daily life will be provided (Mt 6:33).  God’s plan for His people is to prosper them, giving hope and a future (Jer 29:11). This is achieved by building godly character through trials, moreover, producing lasting fruit for eternity as we go and make disciples, operating in the power of the Holy Spirit (Mt 28:19,20; Mk 16:15-18; Jn 15:8,16; Act 1:8).

Intentions remain only ideas unless acted on – however with diligence, persistence, discipline, patience and Divine help they can be accomplished, being a blessing to humanity. We should make plans by seeking advice, both from God and other people (Prov 3:5,6, 20:18).  Goals should be specific, measurable, and have a realistic time frame and action plan. To succeed will require commitment, discipline, enthusiasm and perseverance to overcome the hardship, pain, frustration, discouragement, and setbacks, understanding giving up would only result in defeat, living with regret and un-fulfillment. We also need the ongoing help, support and wisdom of others. What am I doing today that will bring me closer to its completion?

His aim is “to steal, kill and destroy, while Jesus came to give us life”, to destroy Satan’s work in our lives and enable us to be like Him (Jn 10:10; Rom 8:29; 1 Jn 3:8). The most important goals are worth the patience and effort involved to achieve them – but remember they must be accomplished by God’s approved methods as found in the Biblical principles.

“Can two people walked together in harmony unless they are agreed” in a common goal, yet it is amazing what can be accomplished when a person is passionate and teamed up with God, while remembering God wants relationship more than service (Amos 3:3). Caleb said, “Give me this mountain” (Josh 14:12). He knew what God’s inheritance for him was. Paul said, “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ took hold of me” (Phil 3:12-14).

Have you received the heavenly personalised directive or calling for your life? If not, what are you passionate about? Most likely, it will be related to that. He will burden you with a problem you’ve been called to solve. Yield yourself to Him and seek Him with all your heart. He promises to meet you (Jer 29:12-14, 33:3). It is of utmost importance for God’s Kingdom to engage in this for which you were born. Don’t waste your life on what will be “burnt up” – spend it on what will last for eternity (Mt 6:19-21; 1 Cor 3:10-15).

Jesus came to do the Father’s will and at the crucifixion declared He had finished His mission (Mt 26:39; Jn 4:34, 5:30, 6:38, 8:29, 17:4, 19:30). Paul had declared, “I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision”, and then near the end of his life recorded he also had finished his mission in life (Act 26:19; 2 Tim 4:7).
